Imran Khan Likely to Shift to Shifa Hospital Today

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan is likely to be shifted from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital today for medical treatment, following the Supreme Court’s order, according to sources.

Sources said an important meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is underway, with consultations focused on arrangements for Imran Khan’s transfer to the hospital in compliance with the Supreme Court’s decision.

Security measures have also been intensified in Islamabad ahead of the possible transfer. Federal police have reportedly been placed on alert, while arrangements have been completed for shifting the PTI founder from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital.

According to sources, a section of the hospital will be declared a sub-jail to facilitate the former prime minister’s treatment under security arrangements. The Chief Commissioner is expected to issue a formal notification after consultations are completed.

The Inspector General of Islamabad Police and senior police officials have also reached Shifa International Hospital. Senior officers are briefing the IG Islamabad regarding security arrangements for Imran Khan’s possible arrival.

Supreme Court Orders Hospital Transfer

Two days ago, the Supreme Court ordered that Imran Khan be shifted to a private hospital on medical grounds. The order came amid concerns expressed by his legal team and family regarding his health and access to medical treatment.

A three-member Supreme Court bench directed that Imran Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital for treatment. The court also permitted his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, and his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, to remain with him during his treatment.

Under the court’s directions, family members will also be allowed to meet Imran Khan once a week.

The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing until September 16 and directed that Imran Khan remain under treatment at the hospital during this period.

During the proceedings, the court raised questions regarding the cost of treatment at the private hospital and the confidentiality of medical reports. Imran Khan’s counsel assured the court that his family would bear the expenses of his treatment.

Barrister Salman Akram Raja further assured the court that the medical reports would not be used for political purposes.
