ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new digital ID verification facility for passport applicants, enabling citizens to verify their identity through the Pak ID mobile application without presenting a physical Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC).
The latest initiative is designed to simplify the passport application process and strengthen Pakistan’s ongoing digital transformation of public services. According to NADRA, the facility is now available for applicants visiting the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports offices across Pakistan as well as Pakistani embassies and missions abroad.
Under the new system, citizens can use their digital national identity card stored in the Pak ID app to complete identity verification during the passport application process. The service is expected to benefit applicants who have misplaced, forgotten, or do not have immediate access to their physical CNIC when applying for a passport.
NADRA said the digital verification system offers a secure and convenient alternative while reducing dependence on physical identity documents. The move is also expected to improve efficiency at passport offices by making the verification process quicker and more accessible.
To access the digital identity card, users must first log in to the Pak ID mobile application using their registered credentials. From the home screen, they should select the “View Digital ID” option and then tap the “Digital Card” button to display their digital national identity card. The digital card can then be used for identity verification during passport processing.
The authority emphasized that the initiative reflects its commitment to modernizing public services through technology and expanding digital access for citizens both inside Pakistan and overseas.
The launch follows NADRA’s continued efforts to introduce innovative digital solutions, including online identity services and the recently launched free iris scan service, aimed at improving citizen convenience and enhancing the security of identity verification.
Officials believe the introduction of digital ID verification will make passport services more efficient while encouraging greater adoption of digital government platforms. The initiative is expected to save applicants time, reduce paperwork, and support Pakistan’s broader vision of delivering secure, technology-driven public services to millions of citizens at home and abroad.
