ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday reaffirmed its strong support for Saudi Arabia, backing the kingdom’s right to take necessary measures to defend its territory and protect its citizens following recent Houthi attacks.
The Foreign Office strongly condemned the attacks on civilian and economic facilities in Saudi cities, including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, which reportedly injured 73 people and triggered fires at energy facilities.
Pakistan said the attacks were a violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and posed a threat to regional peace and stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the attacks, expressing solidarity with Saudi Arabia’s leadership and people and praying for the swift recovery of those injured.
The latest escalation comes amid heightened tensions in the region and follows repeated Houthi threats against Saudi interests.
Pakistan’s reaffirmation of support comes after Islamabad, Riyadh and Ankara recently formalised closer defence cooperation through the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, aimed at strengthening collective security and regional stability.
