Pakistan pledges full support to Saudi Arabia amid Houthi threats

RAWALPINDI: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said Pakistan is providing and will continue to provide all necessary support to Saudi Arabia to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and security amid escalating Houthi threats.

In an interview with Independent Arabia, the military spokesperson described Saudi Arabia’s security and the protection of Haramain al-Sharifain, the Two Holy Mosques, as paramount and non-negotiable for Pakistan.

Commenting on the Makkah Joint Defence Alliance, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan’s commitment to the agreement was unequivocal. He added that Islamabad was extending the required support to Riyadh and would continue to do so whenever necessary.

The DG ISPR said Pakistan had conveyed strong signals through military deployments, official statements and operational measures that the alliance’s collective deterrence mechanism was already in effect.

He stressed that any threat to Saudi Arabia’s security and territorial integrity would be taken seriously, adding that Pakistan was prepared to take all necessary steps to safeguard its ally.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry also called for unity among Muslim countries, warning that further confrontation would not benefit the region. He urged countries to stop attacking one another and emphasised the importance of de-escalation and peaceful solutions to regional disputes.

He highlighted the establishment of the alliance’s General Secretariat and Strategic Political and Defence Committee, saying the agreement was also taking practical shape on the ground.

Addressing the possibility of expanding the alliance, the DG ISPR said the arrangement was not limited to its three participating countries. He explained that other states committed to collective deterrence, regional peace, stability and security could also join.

He confirmed that Egypt and Syria had expressed interest in joining the Makkah agreement, indicating potential wider regional participation.

Responding to questions about whether the alliance targeted specific countries, including Israel or Iran, he clarified that it was not directed against any particular state.

Instead, he said, the alliance’s collective deterrence mechanism would apply to any actor threatening regional peace, stability or security.

The DG ISPR reiterated that aggression against any participating country would trigger a collective response under the alliance’s deterrence framework, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi security and regional stability.
