Pakistan security forces have carried out strikes against terrorist hideouts in the border region adjoining Afghanistan in response to recent terror attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Information Ministry said.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, security forces targeted three sites linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The operation destroyed three militant compounds, including a training facility reportedly used for suicide bombers.
The ministry said 28 militants were killed in the strikes, including several suspected suicide bombers. Weapons and ammunition stored at the targeted locations were also destroyed during the operation.
The strikes followed intelligence-based operations conducted in Kohat, Hangu and surrounding areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on September 20. Pakistani authorities said those operations resulted in the deaths of nine militants.
The Information Ministry described the latest action as part of Pakistan’s continuing counterterrorism campaign. Officials have repeatedly raised concerns about militant activity originating from Afghanistan and targeting Pakistan.
The development comes after a deadly September 2026 attack on a mosque located inside a police compound in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Pakistani security officials identified one of the primary suicide attackers as an Afghan national named Matiullah, according to the information provided by authorities.
Pakistan has previously reported carrying out intelligence-based strikes against TTP hideouts in Afghanistan. Security sources said earlier operations targeted militant facilities in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar, Paktika and Khost provinces.
According to the sources, more than 80 militants identified by Pakistani authorities as members of the TTP, also referred to by officials as “Fitna al-Khawarij”, were killed in those operations. Officials said the number could increase following further damage assessments and intelligence verification.
Seven militant centres were reportedly destroyed, including facilities identified as New Centre No. 1 and New Centre No. 2 in Nangarhar, Molvi Abbas Centre in Khost, Islam Centre and Ibrahim Centre in Nangarhar, and Mullah Rahbar Centre and Mukhlis Yar Centre in Paktika.
Pakistani officials said the operations were conducted on the basis of intelligence concerning militant presence and activities in border areas. Further details are expected as authorities complete assessments of the latest strikes and verify the reported casualties.
