FAISALABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Faisalabad on Monday sentenced multiple Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in connection with the attack on PML-N senior leader Rana Sanaullah Khan’s residence following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on May 9, 2023.

A total of 59 PTI leaders and workers were handed 10-year prison sentences for their involvement in the attack. Among those convicted were prominent PTI figures including former opposition leader Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Zartaj Gul.

The court, however, acquitted former PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Zain Qureshi, citing insufficient evidence against them. The verdict underscores the judiciary’s continued action against political violence in the aftermath of nationwide protests following Imran Khan’s arrest.

This case has been closely watched across the country, given its political significance and the high-profile nature of the accused. Legal experts suggest the convictions may have long-term implications for PTI’s leadership and its political strategy moving forward.
