QUETTA: The Balochistan government has imposed Section 144 across the province for 30 days, restricting public gatherings and several activities in public places amid security concerns.
According to the provincial notification, gatherings of five or more people, sit-ins, rallies, protests and similar activities have been prohibited during the enforcement period. The order also bans the public display of weapons across Balochistan.
Authorities have further prohibited people from covering their faces, wearing masks or using any other means in public places that could make identification difficult.
The restrictions came into effect from September 23 and will remain in force for 30 days. Law enforcement agencies and district administrations have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order across the province.
Balochistan Home Department Adviser Babar Yousafzai said violations of the restrictions would result in legal action under the relevant laws. The measures have been introduced to maintain public order and protect citizens and property.
The latest restrictions come as authorities in other parts of the country have also introduced security measures. In Islamabad, Section 144 has been enforced for two months, with the administration prohibiting gatherings, processions and demonstrations amid planned political activities.
Authorities in the federal capital have also announced additional security and traffic arrangements ahead of a planned September 27 protest. Major routes, including sections of the M-1, M-14 and GT Road, face restrictions according to reports.
The Balochistan administration has instructed relevant officials to monitor compliance with the provincial order throughout the 30-day period.
The enforcement of Section 144 gives law enforcement agencies legal authority to take action against activities covered by the notification. Citizens have been advised to comply with the restrictions to avoid legal consequences.
