KPK: At least 14 people, including several police personnel, were martyred and more than 25 others injured in a suicide bombing outside the Kabal Police Station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district on Sunday.
The deadly blast occurred near the main entrance of the police station during a peaceful demonstration organized by a local peace committee, resulting in heavy casualties among law enforcement officials and civilians.
According to police officials, the suicide bomber attempted to enter the Kabal Police Station but was stopped by security personnel stationed at the main gate. After being intercepted, the attacker detonated the explosives near the entrance, preventing what authorities believe could have been an even deadlier attack inside the police facility.
District Police Officer (DPO) Swat Muhammad Umar Gandapur praised the officers on duty for their swift response, stating that their actions prevented the attacker from entering the police station. He also confirmed that investigators recovered a severed human head from the blast site, which is believed to belong to the suicide bomber and will assist in identifying the attacker.
Malakand Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Fida Hussain said a youth protest was taking place near the police station when the explosion occurred, explaining the large number of people present at the scene. Most of the victims were police officials, while several civilians attending the demonstration were also caught in the blast.
All injured victims were shifted to Saidu Sharif Hospital for treatment. Hospital officials warned that the death toll could rise as several injured remain in critical condition.
Rescue teams completed search and rescue operations shortly after the explosion, while law enforcement agencies sealed off the area and launched a search operation to collect forensic evidence. Authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine the identity of the attacker, trace those responsible, and uncover the circumstances surrounding the devastating terror attack.
