DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Three traffic police personnel were martyred and three others, including two civilians, were injured after unidentified armed attackers opened fire on a police mobile in Wazirabad area of Tank district on Monday.
According to an initial police report, the attack took place within the jurisdiction of City Police Station in Wazirabad. The martyred officials were identified as Constable Gul Amin, Constable Saleem Shah and traffic police driver Fayyaz.
Two passersby, Qaiser and Zafar Hussain, sustained injuries in the firing and were shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. Traffic in-charge Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Asmatullah was also injured in the attack.
Police said the attackers fled the area after the firing and took the traffic police vehicle with them.
Following the incident, a heavy contingent of police reached the site and cordoned off the area. Security personnel launched a search operation to trace the attackers, while an investigation into the incident is underway.
The motive behind the attack has not yet been established, and no group has immediately claimed responsibility.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grief over the martyrdom of the three police personnel. He sought a report from the relevant authorities regarding the incident.
The governor extended condolences to the families and colleagues of the martyred policemen and prayed for the departed souls. He also directed authorities to ensure that the injured received all possible medical treatment and prayed for their speedy recovery.
The attack comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Earlier on Saturday, at least 11 people were martyred in a suicide attack in the Darazinda area of Dera Ismail Khan, according to reports.
The blast occurred at the Aman Mela anti-smuggling check post along the Dera Ismail Khan-Quetta Road. Sources said an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into the check post, causing extensive damage due to the intensity of the explosion.
Sources described the incident as evidence of alleged links between terrorist and criminal elements.
Authorities have continued security operations in the region following the recent attacks, while investigations into the Tank firing and Saturday’s suicide attack remain underway.
