ISLAMABAD: Uzbekistan Airways is set to begin direct flights between Tashkent and Islamabad starting June 14, 2025, marking a significant step in strengthening connectivity between Pakistan and Uzbekistan. The weekly service, operating every Saturday, aims to boost regional integration and facilitate closer bilateral cooperation.

This new air route reflects both nations’ commitment to enhancing economic, cultural, and strategic ties under the Central and South Asia Connectivity Initiative. The initiative promotes regional trade, infrastructure development, energy partnerships, and people-to-people exchanges.

Currently, Uzbekistan Airways operates biweekly direct flights to Lahore, and the addition of Islamabad further expands its presence in Pakistan, connecting major cities to Central Asia and beyond. The new route is expected to stimulate business travel, academic cooperation, and tourism, particularly to Uzbekistan’s historic Silk Road cities like Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva.

The direct flight is also expected to support sectors such as textiles, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and tourism. By improving accessibility, it enables smoother travel for students, professionals, and official delegations, enhancing cross-border collaboration and cultural understanding.

This route also aligns with broader regional infrastructure projects like the Trans-Afghan Railway, complementing efforts to transform Central Asia into a globally connected, land-linked hub. For both Pakistan and Uzbekistan, the flight represents not just improved transport, but a gateway to stronger economic integration, regional cooperation, and shared prosperity.
