KARACHI: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House in Karachi on Tuesday, with the two leaders discussing the prevailing political situation and recent developments in the country.
According to sources, the meeting focused on the latest political developments, with both sides exchanging views on matters of national importance and issues requiring attention at the federal level.
The meeting comes amid ongoing political discussions surrounding governance, administrative reforms and relations between the coalition partners. Naqvi has recently been involved in discussions on what he described as a need for a governance “reset,” including debate over the creation of new administrative units.
Earlier this month, President Zardari also met Naqvi in London. Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed that the two had met in London on September 2, while referring questions about the details of the engagement to the President’s Office.
The latest Karachi meeting also comes against the backdrop of comments by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Ramesh Kumar, who said the party had no immediate concerns as long as Naqvi remained in contact with its leadership.
Kumar had linked the PPP’s confidence to what he described as a close relationship between President Zardari and the interior minister. His comments were made during an interview with ARY News earlier in September.
Meanwhile, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said Naqvi is entitled to express his views on governance reforms and new provinces, while maintaining that such issues should be debated in Parliament.
The details of Tuesday’s meeting were not officially disclosed.
