KARACHI: Light tremors were felt in Karachi during the early hours of Monday after a mild earthquake struck the city. According to the Seismological Centre, the earthquake measured 3.0 on the Richter scale and had its epicentre in the Malir area.

The tremor occurred at approximately 3:14am at a shallow depth of 8 kilometres. Residents in Quaidabad and surrounding localities reported feeling the tremors, which, although minor, caused a wave of concern and panic among locals.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or damage to infrastructure. Emergency services remain on alert, and authorities continue to monitor the situation.

This incident comes shortly after a similar event on June 16, when a 3.1-magnitude earthquake hit Balochistan’s Kalat district. That tremor also triggered panic but did not cause any reported damage. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the Kalat quake had its epicentre 8 kilometres southeast of the district. The PMD has urged citizens to stay calm but vigilant, as minor quakes can be precursors to larger seismic activity.
