KARACHI: A ceiling collapse was reported at a residential apartment on the mezzanine floor in Karachi’s Saddar area, damaging several parked vehicles, officials said.

The incident took place near the Saddar mobile market when the ceiling suddenly fell onto the ground-floor parking space, hitting cars and motorcycles below. Rescue teams and police arrived at the location shortly after the incident. One person sustained injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities concerned have been alerted to assess the situation. Officials from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) are expected to inspect the building to determine its structural condition. Rescue and safety operations remain underway to avoid further danger.

Previously, the SBCA ordered the evacuation of unsafe buildings across Karachi, noting that hundreds of structures in various districts have been declared hazardous, with several already sealed after evacuations.
