KARACHI: Fresh CCTV footage showing a man allegedly harassing a woman in Karachi’s Keamari area has surfaced online, prompting police to intensify efforts to identify and arrest the suspect.
The incident, which reportedly occurred near Khushboo Chowk on July 20, has once again raised concerns over the safety of women in public places across the city.
According to police officials, the CCTV footage clearly captures the suspect’s face as he allegedly approaches and harasses the woman. The video has been widely shared on social media, drawing strong public reaction and calls for swift action against the accused. Despite the circulation of the footage, no formal complaint has been lodged by the victim so far.
Investigators said they are using the available CCTV footage and other surveillance cameras in the surrounding area to trace the suspect. Police expressed confidence that the accused would be identified and arrested soon, urging citizens to cooperate with law enforcement if they have any information related to the incident.
The latest case comes only days after another alleged harassment incident in Karachi’s Azizabad area on July 17. In that case, a motorcyclist was caught on CCTV allegedly harassing a woman on the roadside. Police investigations revealed that the suspect had purchased biryani from a nearby restaurant shortly before the incident. Authorities collected additional CCTV recordings from nearby shops to help identify both the suspect’s face and the motorcycle registration number.
Karachi police say special teams are working on both investigations, stressing that harassment of women in public spaces will not be tolerated. The repeated incidents have sparked renewed debate over women’s safety and the importance of surveillance technology in solving crimes.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, CCTV footage also captured two armed men opening fire at a private office near Ayesha Manzil in Karachi. According to police, the attack took place on July 16 when two suspects arrived on a motorcycle, with one repeatedly firing at the office before fleeing. No casualties were reported.
Police said the attackers later demanded Rs50 million in extortion money. A case has been registered at Gulberg Police Station, while investigators continue examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and arrest those involved. Authorities have assured the public that both investigations are progressing and that those responsible will be brought to justice.
