KARACHI: Karachi Police have constituted a high-level investigation team to probe the murder of businessman Mir Raza Ali, whose body was recovered from Gulistan-e-Jauhar earlier this week.
The move comes as investigators continue gathering evidence, including crucial CCTV footage and forensic findings, in an effort to identify and arrest those responsible for the high-profile killing.
According to an official police statement, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Azad Khan has appointed SSP SIU/CIA Samiullah Soomro as the head of the special investigation team. The team also includes SSP East Zubair Nazir Ahmed Shaikh and SP Investigation East Usman Sadozai.
The AIG has directed the officers to conduct a thorough investigation covering every aspect of the case. He also instructed the team to take immediate measures to trace and arrest all suspects involved in the murder. To strengthen the investigation, the team has been granted authority to seek assistance from any police officer serving within the Karachi Range. Daily progress reports will be submitted directly to the AIG Karachi to ensure close monitoring of the investigation.
Meanwhile, investigators have secured an important breakthrough after recovering CCTV footage that could provide vital clues. According to police sources, the footage was extracted from the digital video recorder (DVR) of a shop in Bahadurabad. The DVR was taken into custody shortly after the murder case was registered.
The surveillance footage, recorded on the day Mir Raza Ali disappeared, reportedly shows the businessman entering his shop around one to two hours before he went missing. In the video, he can be seen opening a drawer and taking out a holster containing a .30-bore pistol before leaving the premises.
The post-mortem report has also revealed new details that contradict earlier reports claiming the victim’s body had been burned. According to the police surgeon, Mir Raza Ali died from a single gunshot wound to the chest. The cause of death was identified as haemorrhagic shock caused by excessive bleeding following the bullet injury.
Medical examiners found no evidence that the body had been set on fire, dismissing initial speculation that the suspects attempted to destroy the victim’s identity by burning the remains. However, the report confirmed that the body had begun decomposing before it was recovered.
Police officials say forensic analysis, CCTV evidence, witness statements and other investigative leads are being examined to establish the sequence of events. Authorities remain confident that the special investigation team will make significant progress in solving the Mir Raza Ali murder case and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
