KARACHI: Karachi police have claimed significant progress in the investigation into the death of young entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali, with Sindh Inspector General (IG) Ghulam Nabi Memon Odho announcing that the case has been fully traced and that all findings will soon be presented to the public.
Speaking to journalists during his visit to the Karachi Bar Association, IG Odho said the investigation had been conducted thoroughly and denied allegations of negligence by the police. He stated that officers worked extensively on the case and gathered all available evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death.
According to the Sindh police chief, Karachi police will soon hold a detailed press conference to disclose the facts of the investigation. He acknowledged that confusion had arisen due to conflicting statements regarding the case but assured the public that all available evidence would be presented transparently.
IG Odho explained that part of the confusion stemmed from comments made by an unrelated medico-legal officer, while the official medico-legal documents reportedly contained different findings. He emphasized that medical experts, rather than speculation, would establish the facts.
Addressing concerns over the post-mortem report, the police chief said there would be no objection if a medical board was formed to review the case. He added that the police investigation would continue in line with the findings of the medical experts and that all legal procedures would be followed.
In a significant development, a judicial court in Karachi approved the exhumation of Mir Raza Ali’s body to facilitate a fresh post-mortem examination. The request was submitted by Mir Hussain Ali, the deceased businessman’s father, who challenged both the police investigation and the initial post-mortem report.
The petitioner argued that the earlier investigation failed to determine the actual cause of death and requested a new examination under the supervision of an independent medical board.
Judicial Magistrate East issued written orders directing the Secretary of Health to immediately constitute a medical board to oversee the exhumation process. The court further instructed authorities to ensure that the exhumation and fresh post-mortem are carried out in accordance with legal requirements and under the board’s supervision.
The upcoming police briefing and the findings of the medical board are expected to play a crucial role in resolving the controversy surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death and providing clarity to his family and the public.
