Karachi Press Club, Aga Khan University Hospital hold medical camp

KARACHI: Karachi Press Club, in collaboration with Aga Khan University Hospital, organised a medical camp for its members, where experts warned that the growing burden of heart and other diseases in Pakistan is increasingly affecting younger people.

The camp, held on Saturday, offered various healthcare facilities, including ECG, echocardiography and other diagnostic tests, providing Press Club members access to medical screening and consultation.

Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jameeli, Secretary Muhammad Aslam Khan, senior journalist Maqsood Yousufi and Health Committee members Tufail Ahmed, Shafqat Bhatti, Israr Sheikh and Siraj Amjadi attended the event. Aga Khan University Hospital was represented by Professor Muhammad Javed Khan, Head of the Chest Unit, Assistant Professor of Cardiology Dr Yawar Saeed, faculty and communications representative Adil Siddiqui, spokesperson Shabbir Alam and others.

Muhammad Aslam Khan appreciated Aga Khan University Hospital for arranging the camp and providing healthcare facilities to Press Club members. He said rising private healthcare costs were making medical treatment increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens.

Professor Muhammad Javed Khan stressed the importance of regular exercise, a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle choices in preventing heart and other diseases. He urged parents to discourage excessive fast-food consumption among children and encourage healthier eating habits, including greater consumption of vegetables.

He also advised people to avoid smoking and other tobacco products, noting that preventive measures can significantly reduce the risk of disease.

Dr Yawar Saeed said heart disease was becoming a major health concern in Pakistan and across Asia, with heart attacks increasingly reported among younger people. He advised people to avoid overeating and adopt a moderate, balanced diet to lower cardiovascular risks.
