Karachi: When a person's heart suddenly stops beating or breathing ceases, the correct and timely application of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can save a life. Recognizing this critical need, students from the Biomedical Engineering Department of Aligarh Institute of Technology have developed the "Rescue Rhythm CPR Training Assistant," an innovative device designed to provide practical training in life-saving emergency response techniques.
The advanced training system evaluates the quality of chest compressions in real time and instantly indicates whether the pressure applied is correct, insufficient, or excessive. Equipped with a display screen, color-coded indicators, and an audible buzzer, the device guides trainees throughout the CPR process. It also records the number of chest compressions performed and assesses the overall accuracy of the training session.
The project was developed by Kashish Imam, Musfira Kamran, Rahul Mushtaq, and Muhammad Imaduddin under the supervision of Engineer Syeda Tehreem Qamar.
Engineer Rida Fatima, Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department, said that if more people receive proper training in restoring heartbeat and breathing through CPR, countless lives could be saved during cardiac arrests, accidents, and other medical emergencies. She added that the training system has significant potential for use in hospitals, nursing colleges, first-aid training centers, and emergency rescue organizations.
