KARACHI: K-Electric has announced that restoration of electricity is actively underway in several rain-affected areas of the city following Thursday night’s downpours.

According to a spokesperson from the utility company, 1,830 out of Karachi’s 2,100 power feeders are currently operational, ensuring uninterrupted electricity to a majority of the city. Power has been restored in multiple neighborhoods, including parts of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Nauman Center, Muslim League Quarters, PECHS Block 3, Bahadurabad, Bahadur Yar Jung, Teachers Society, Shahnawaz Bhutto Colony, Labour Colony, SITE Industrial Area, and Philips Chowrangi.

However, power supply remains suspended in certain low-lying zones and areas with encroachments or illegal connections, which K-Electric noted is a precautionary measure to ensure public safety during the wet weather.

Field teams have been deployed and are working around the clock to accelerate the restoration process. Citizens have been advised to report any electricity-related concerns by calling the company’s helpline at 118.

Karachi experienced scattered rainfall of varying intensity across the city, with areas such as Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadid, Memon Goth, Shah Latif Town, Razzaqabad, and Bhens Colony receiving moderate to heavy showers. Rain was also reported in Steel Town, Pipri, Port Qasim, and Ghaffar Phatak.

Urban areas like Gulistan-e-Johar, University Road, Tariq Road, Hasan Square, P.I.B., Jail Road, and surrounding neighborhoods also experienced rainfall. Additional affected areas included Safura, Saadi Town, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Scheme 33, Incholi, Gulberg, and Garden.
