PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has inaugurated the Pink Bus Service for women, along with new hybrid buses and other transport and infrastructure projects in the province.
The new service is aimed at providing women with safer and more accessible public transport. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Afridi said the Pink Buses were part of his commitment to improving transport facilities for women in KP.
He announced a 25% reduction in fares for women travelling on the Pink Bus Service. The chief minister also praised women working as bus drivers, describing them as role models for other women.
Afridi highlighted the province’s efforts to support and empower women and said respect for women and elders, care for children and patriotism were important values in Pashtun society.
The chief minister also inaugurated a solarisation project at Chamkani Depot and the Mall of Hayatabad Depot as part of efforts to improve the province’s public transport infrastructure.
During his address, Afridi also announced that his party would hold a long march towards Islamabad on October 4. He said the participants would proceed with the march and would not retreat.
The KP chief minister further criticised government spending and Pakistan’s financial situation. He claimed that the country’s debt had reached Rs99 trillion and questioned expenditure on government facilities and events.
Afridi also alleged that Rs6 billion in public funds was being spent on a three-day conference, while calling for greater focus on serving citizens.
