KARACHI: Authorities have dissolved the investigation team probing the death of Mir Raza Ali following concerns raised by his lawyer, Jibran Nasir, over the handling of the case and the emergence of a new medical report.
Officials said a formal notification regarding the formation of a new investigation committee would be issued shortly. The decision came after Jibran Nasir demanded that the existing team be replaced following fresh findings in the medical examination.
Speaking to the media, the lawyer said he had no confidence in the investigation team comprising the AIG and SSP. He said the entire team should be changed and added that they would approach the court if their demand was not addressed.
Jibran Nasir also made serious allegations regarding the treatment of Mir Raza Ali’s family during the investigation. He claimed that family members were kept at an office for several hours and were allegedly pressured to accept the theory that the incident was a suicide.
The lawyer further raised questions about the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death. He claimed that marks of violence were found on different parts of the victim’s face. He also pointed to the presence of a black substance on the body, describing the finding as unusual and requiring further investigation.
According to Nasir, available evidence indicated that the bullet entered through Mir Raza Ali’s back and exited through his chest. He also claimed that there were indications of fractured ribs, raising further questions about the circumstances surrounding the death.
Initial medical report
Sources said the initial medical report showed that Mir Raza sustained a gunshot wound to the back and also had signs of torture on his body.
Officials said the forensic team had received responses to all 14 questions raised during the examination. The findings could lead investigators to broaden the scope of the ongoing probe.
An eight-member medical board is currently working to finalize the detailed medical report. Meanwhile, 17 samples collected during the exhumation have been preserved for further forensic examination.
The latest development is expected to bring renewed scrutiny to the Mir Raza Ali case as authorities prepare to constitute a new investigation committee. The new team will be tasked with examining the medical and forensic evidence and determining the circumstances surrounding his death.
