RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has formed a high-level investigation committee to review the murder case of Hina Javed.
The committee will be headed by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Director General Sohail Zafar Chattha and will include Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shoaib Khurram and Rawalpindi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation.
According to sources, the committee will conduct a fresh review of the investigation and is expected to visit Rawalpindi this week under the leadership of Sohail Zafar Chattha.
The panel will examine the post-mortem report, statements recorded from suspects and the proceedings of the case. It will also visit the crime scene and review the progress of the investigation conducted so far.
Sources said the committee is expected to meet Hina Javed’s family during its visit to Rawalpindi.
The murder case was registered at Civil Lines Police Station in Rawalpindi. Hina Javed’s husband and her personal employee are currently in Adiala Jail on judicial remand in connection with the case.
Earlier, on September 11, the victim’s family raised concerns over the direction of the investigation, alleging that the probe was being shifted towards a domestic worker instead of focusing on the main suspect.
The family also submitted letters to the National Commission for Human Rights, Ministry of Law and a parliamentary caucus committee, seeking attention to their concerns.
In the letters, the family alleged that a bloodstained sheet recovered from the crime scene was handed over to Hina Javed’s father-in-law instead of being taken into police custody. They further alleged that chats and messages between Hina Javed and her sister had been deleted from her mobile phone. The newly formed committee will now review these and other aspects of the case as part of the fresh investigation.
