Rangers official suspended for misconduct with KU professor

KARACHI: A Rangers official has been suspended following an incident of misconduct involving Professor Dr. Afaaq Ahmed at Karachi University (KU), the Karachi University Teachers' Society (KUTS) confirmed on Thursday.

The suspension came after a Rangers personnel allegedly slapped Dr. Afaaq Ahmed three days earlier, during a confrontation over the burning of garbage near the professor’s residence in the university’s staff colony. The assault reportedly broke the professor’s glasses and caused an injury to his eye.

In response to the incident, the KU Teachers’ Society convened a meeting at the university’s staff club. During the session, Dr. Ahmed recounted the details of the altercation. The matter was promptly raised with the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, who assured immediate resolution.

The KU Vice Chancellor, accompanied by KUTS President Dr. Mohsin Ali and Secretary Dr. Maroof Bin Rauf, visited the professor’s residence to express solidarity. Senior Rangers officials also met Dr. Ahmed to personally condemn the incident and extend their regret over the conduct of the official involved.

According to KUTS, the Rangers sector commander, after meeting the professor, ordered the suspension of the involved personnel and initiated disciplinary proceedings. The commander assured that strict action would be taken against those found responsible.

Dr. Ahmed expressed his appreciation for the support shown by KU leadership and Rangers officials, and voiced full confidence in the measures being taken. Participants of the meeting welcomed the prompt response from university and Rangers authorities.
