KARACHI: Traffic authorities in Karachi have imposed restrictions on the entry of rickshaws and taxis in several major markets as part of a special traffic management plan ahead of the busy shopping period of Chand Raat.
According to the Karachi Traffic Police, the measures are intended to reduce congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow during peak shopping hours. Additional traffic personnel will also be deployed across key commercial areas to assist shoppers and maintain order.
Under the plan, taxis, rickshaws, and other commercial vehicles will not be allowed on Rashid Minhas Road. Similarly, the stretch of Tariq Road between Allah Wali and Ittehad Signal in Bahadurabad will remain closed to rickshaws and taxis, while commercial vehicles will be directed to alternative routes.
Traffic coming from Drigh Road will be diverted towards NIPA via the bridge. Commercial vehicles heading toward North Karachi will also be rerouted through designated alternative routes, while rickshaws and taxis will be diverted through Sharah-e-Noorjahan.
Authorities have also restricted the movement of rickshaws and taxis between Saddar Fawara Chowk and GPO Chowk Karachi, as well as from Singer Chowk Karachi to Rehbil Nisa Street.
To address potential congestion, alternate traffic routes have been arranged near busy areas including Clifton Bridge, Teen Talwar, and Race Course Park Karachi.
Officials said the temporary restrictions are aimed at improving traffic movement and ensuring a safer and more organized shopping environment for residents during the festive evening.
