MANCHESTER: Cristiano Ronaldo could make a surprise return to Manchester United—but not as a player. Former teammate Danny Simpson revealed in a recent interview with *Goal* that the Portuguese legend remains emotionally tied to the club and may come back in a different capacity.
Ronaldo, who had two spells at United (2003–2009 and 2021–2022), left the club under tense circumstances during his second stint. His departure in November 2022 saw him join Saudi side Al-Nassr, while United continued to struggle with inconsistency.
Simpson suggested that Ronaldo, known for his elite mentality and leadership, could return in a decision-making or ambassadorial role to help rebuild the club’s identity.
“I don’t think he liked the way he left, so he’d like to come back and make United great again—on some level where he can influence things,” Simpson said. “He’s also a businessman. I think he has a lot to offer, even on that side of the game.”
While no official plans have been confirmed, the idea of Ronaldo’s return in a non-playing role has sparked excitement among fans, as the club looks for strong leadership both on and off the pitch.
