KARACHI: Rotary Club Karachi Nexus organized a focus meeting to celebrate Literacy Month. A large number of Rotarians, district officials, and people from various walks of life participated. Senior officers from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UNIO, and the United Nations took part in the meeting. Director NADRA and Dr. Farhana from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation also attended.
The Chief Guest was Faiz Qudwai, Chairman of Rotary Pakistan UTC (United for Literacy), while Abdul Jabbar Murri, Director of Nourpha Education, was the Guest of Honour. Iqbal Qureshi, the driving force behind Pakistan Literacy Nation Pakistan, was also present. Regarding the Out-of-School Children program of Nexus, Muhammad Ali Haider, General Secretary of Rotary Club Karachi Nexus, elaborated on the project. The General Secretary and Literacy Chair shed light on how Rotary and the District Chair are working towards zero out-of-school children in two Union Councils, with the goal that no school-age child in these two UCs will remain out of school. President of Rotary Club Karachi Nexus, Malik Tahir Iqbal Arain, addressed the gathering and highlighted the performance of the club, giving a detailed briefing on the work being done by Rotary Club Karachi Nexus in the education sector. He also announced that in the coming days, they are going to formulate a disability agenda from the forum of Rotary Club Karachi
Nexus.District Governor Rotary International District 3271 Pakistan, Shahzad Sabir, highly appreciated the Out-of-School Children Project and said that the District stands with RC Nexus to support this project. "I have appreciated this project on every forum and promoted it, and we take it seriously so that it becomes a district-encored project in the future," he said.Faiz Kidwai said that until the structure of government schools is fixed, the quality of education cannot be improved. Education cannot be made common nor its quality enhanced on the basis of private schools. He said that in the old times, school education was not so good, but values and civility among people were great; today education has improved but civility has diminished. He stressed the need to see how we can train children in society to become good citizens. He added that Rotary Mission of Pakistan will continue to undertake projects in collaboration with UNICEF. He also briefed the audience about the tablet program launched by Pakistan Smart Village.
He said that a long-term program regarding education should be planned, on which the Chief Ministers of all four provinces should work with unity, then InshaAllah the target will be achieved.In the end, Adeel, Chairman of Non-Formal Education of the District, presented the vote of thanks and said that they will continue to organize such programs from the forum of Rotary Club Karachi Nexus. Muslim Hands, which represents CRA, will work together with Rotary.On this occasion, Aslam Khaliq, Chair of Membership Development of the club, distributed membership certificates to new members.A large number of members participated, including Khurram Anis, former President, Kausar Aslam, Founder, Ana Haider, former President and Chairman Sindh Health Commission Dr. Khalid Hussain Sheikh, Treasurer Javed Zaidi, Shakeel A.
