Shoaib Malik has officially announced his retirement from the Pakistan Super League, ending one of the longest and most consistent playing careers in PSL history. The former Pakistan captain confirmed the decision ahead of PSL season 11, closing a chapter that began with the league’s inaugural edition in 2016.
Sharing the news on social media, Shoaib Malik reflected on his decade-long journey in the Pakistan Super League, calling it a memorable and fulfilling experience. He thanked the league, franchises, teammates, and fans for their support, adding that while his playing career in the PSL has ended, his passion for cricket remains strong.
Shoaib Malik PSL retirement marks the departure of a player who witnessed and contributed to the league’s growth from matches hosted in the UAE to a fully home-based tournament in Pakistan. Over the years, Malik represented four PSL teams including Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators, making him one of the most traveled and experienced cricketers in PSL history.
His final appearance came in PSL 10 for Quetta Gladiators, bringing his PSL career full circle. Known for his calm presence in the middle order, Malik played a key role in stabilizing innings and finishing matches under pressure. His part-time off-spin also added balance to team combinations across multiple seasons.
In terms of PSL statistics, Shoaib Malik retires as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament’s history. He scored 2,350 runs in 92 PSL matches at an average of 33.09, numbers that underline his consistency and adaptability in T20 cricket. Alongside his batting contributions, he also picked up 17 wickets, reinforcing his value as a dependable all-rounder.
Beyond the Pakistan Super League, Malik’s T20 career stands among the most successful in world cricket. He is the sixth-highest run-scorer in T20 cricket overall, with 13,571 runs, 83 half-centuries, and a strike rate of 127.24, featuring prominently in domestic leagues across the globe.
While Shoaib Malik will no longer feature as a PSL player, his influence on Pakistan cricket and the league’s early development remains significant.
