Karachi: The Sindh Government will soon introduce its first comprehensive Sports Policy aimed at the development and promotion of sports across the province.
This was announced by Sindh Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar, during a meeting with the founding members of the Association of Sports Media Alliance (ASMAN) in Karachi.
The minister stated that following the 18th Constitutional Amendment, Sindh has been functioning without a provincial sports policy. To address this gap, the government is now preparing the province’s first-ever Sports Policy.
He said the policy will focus on providing equal opportunities for all, strengthening grassroots sports infrastructure, promoting physical education, identifying and nurturing talent, developing modern sports facilities, advancing sports science and sports medicine, ensuring good governance, improving the functioning and accountability of sports associations, fostering public-private partnerships, and encouraging women’s and inclusive sports.
Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar emphasized that the hallmark of the policy will be effective direction, regular monitoring, transparency, and accountability. He also invited members of the delegation to provide suggestions and feedback to help shape the proposed policy.
The minister further announced that the Sindh Youth Card will be launched in August and inaugurated by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Under this initiative, 100,000 young people aged 15 to 29 from all 30 districts of Sindh will receive access to a range of facilities and benefits aimed at youth development.
Commending the formation of ASMAN, the minister expressed confidence that the government and sports media could work together for the betterment and promotion of sports in the province.
The meeting was attended by ASMAN founding members Shahid Hashmi, Yahya Hussaini, Iqbal Muneer, Atiq-ur-Rehman, Naseem Rajput, Munir-ul-Haq, Khursheed Alam, and Iqbal Jamil.
