KARACHI: A late-night illegal street race ended in tragedy in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area when a speeding vehicle lost control and critically injured a food delivery rider at Khayaban-e-Ittihad.
According to police officials, the incident occurred around 2:00 AM near Saba Signal in the DHA neighborhood. Witnesses reported that two cars were engaged in a high-speed race when one of the vehicles veered out of control. The car reportedly flipped multiple times before crashing into 32-year-old Farhan, who was riding his motorcycle on the opposite side of the road.
The impact left the rider with severe head trauma and multiple fractures. Emergency responders reached the site shortly after the crash and shifted him to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed he remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment.
In a shocking development, the two young men inside the racing vehicle initially remained at the scene, creating the impression that they intended to assist the injured rider. They called for another car to arrive, allegedly to help transport the victim. However, instead of offering assistance, they used the opportunity to escape. Claiming they were heading to the hospital or following the ambulance, the suspects fled before authorities could detain them.
Police have since seized the damaged vehicle left behind at the crash site and launched a manhunt to apprehend those responsible. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the Saba Signal area to trace the suspects’ escape route and identify the vehicle used in their getaway.
Authorities confirmed that a case is being registered against the drivers on charges of reckless driving, negligence, and fleeing the scene of an accident. The search operation remains underway as officials work to determine the ownership of the abandoned vehicle and bring the culprits to justice.
