Titled “Protecting the Mind Behind the News: Building Psychological Resilience in Journalism,” the session highlighted the growing need to support journalists who routinely face stress, trauma, and demanding working conditions while reporting from the field.

The workshop was conducted by Prof. Dr. Jamshed Ahmed, a psychologist at Ziauddin University, who shared practical strategies to help journalists manage stress, strengthen emotional resilience, and maintain psychological well-being in high-pressure environments. Participants gained valuable insights into coping mechanisms that can improve both their personal and professional lives.

The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the psychological challenges commonly experienced by reporters and media professionals, while encouraging healthier coping strategies and resilience in the face of challenging assignments. The interactive session also emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental health in Pakistan’s media industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Amir Shahzad, Head of Public Relations & Communications at Ziauddin University, said that journalists play a vital role in informing society, often at significant personal sacrifice. He noted that protecting their mental well-being is as important as enhancing their professional capabilities, adding that the university remains committed to promoting awareness and fostering a workplace culture that values psychological health.

The workshop concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, allowing participants to share their experiences and interact directly with the expert.
