BANGKOK: The death toll from the devastating fire at Bangkok’s Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub has risen to 30, with authorities launching an investigation into possible safety violations and negligence.
Officials said three more victims died in hospital, while 24 people remain in critical condition. The blaze erupted late Sunday in the Chatuchak district, with preliminary findings suggesting an electrical short circuit in a ceiling air conditioner may have sparked the fire.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt pledged stricter inspections of entertainment venues and announced a committee to review safety regulations. Police are investigating whether emergency exits were blocked and if flammable materials used for stage decorations and soundproofing contributed to the tragedy.
The pub has apologised to victims' families and said it is cooperating with investigators. Thailand has experienced several deadly entertainment venue fires in recent years, prompting renewed concerns over compliance with fire safety standards despite mandatory inspections.
