Waseem Abbas Case: Main Accused Killed in CCD Encounter

MULTAN: Touqeer Nazir, the main accused in the death of 15-year-old orphan Waseem Abbas, was killed in an alleged encounter with Punjab’s Crime Control Department (CCD) in Bahawalpur on Wednesday, police said.

According to CCD officials, Nazir had escaped from police custody in Multan, prompting authorities to establish roadblocks to arrest him.

Officials said CCD personnel attempted to stop two motorcyclists near Bahawalpur’s Northern Bypass. The suspects allegedly opened fire while attempting to flee, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. One man was killed during the incident and was later identified as Touqeer Nazir.

Police have not provided further details about the encounter.

Waseem Abbas was killed a day earlier after being struck by a speeding car allegedly driven by Nazir in a private housing society in Multan. CCTV footage of the incident also emerged.

Police had arrested Nazir in connection with the teenager’s death and seized the vehicle involved in the incident. A murder case was registered against him on a police complaint.

On Tuesday, a court granted police four-day physical remand of Nazir for further investigation. However, he was killed before the remand period could be completed.

According to police, Waseem had been learning electrical work under Nazir. In his initial statement, the suspect claimed that the teenager frequently left work without permission and that he had attempted to stop him.

Police said Nazir chased Waseem, first on foot and later in a car, accompanied by another man identified as Amjad Ali.

During the pursuit, the speeding vehicle allegedly struck Waseem, causing him to collide with the gate of a house. The teenager died at the scene.

Nazir had claimed that his car skidded while he was attempting to block Waseem’s path, resulting in the fatal incident. The circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death and the subsequent encounter remain significant developments in the case.
