NADRA issues guidelines for first-time CNIC applicants

KARACHI: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued guidelines for citizens applying for a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) for the first time after turning 18.

NADRA said applicants whose parents or siblings are not registered with the authority or are unavailable must complete additional documentation and verification before submitting their applications.

Applicants are required to provide a verified computerised birth certificate or a citizenship or naturalisation certificate.

They must also bring two biometric witnesses aged 18 or above who possess valid identity cards. NADRA said preference would be given to witnesses from the applicant’s paternal or maternal family.

If family members are unavailable, a person from the same locality who personally knows the applicant and holds a valid CNIC or NICOP may serve as a witness.

Applicants must also submit an Affidavit B in the prescribed format, while the application form must be attested by an authorised person under Regulation 9.

NADRA has advised applicants to bring any additional supporting documents available with them.

Applications can be submitted at the nearest NADRA Registration Centre.
