ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Tuesday that the Zil Hajj moon was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan, confirming that Eid ul Adha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7. As a result, the first day of Zil Hajj, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, will fall on Thursday, May 29.

The main meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held in Islamabad to assess moon sighting reports for the 1446 Hijri Zil Hajj. Simultaneously, zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees convened in their respective regions. In Lahore, religious scholar Mufti Ramzan Sialvi confirmed that the moon was not visible, while no credible moon sighting testimonies were reported from Karachi or other areas of Sindh.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the new moon was born at 8:02 am today, but due to its young age—approximately 12 hours by sunset—visibility was unlikely. The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) had earlier predicted low chances of moon visibility and projected Eid ul Adha to fall on June 7.

Eid ul Adha, which commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice, is observed on the 10th of Zil Hajj and celebrated over three days.
