PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Minister Syed Fakhar Jehan has instructed Excise and Taxation offices across Peshawar and other districts to enhance revenue collection and exceed assigned targets. The directive was issued during a meeting at the Directorate General of Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control in Hayatabad, where six-month tax recovery performance across the province was reviewed.
The provincial minister emphasized the importance of expanding the tax net and ensuring that new taxable units are registered and brought under taxation in full compliance with the law. Officers were urged not to remain content with achieving minimum targets but to actively mobilize field staff to maximize tax collection beyond expectations. Fakhar Jehan warned that negligence in this regard would not be tolerated.
The meeting included Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Khalid Ilyas, along with directors and Excise and Taxation officers from various districts. Officials presented detailed statistics covering December collections and cumulative six-month performance, highlighting tax revenues from Peshawar city and other districts under different taxation heads.
Syed Fakhar Jehan stressed that the next six months should show a significant increase in revenue figures, ensuring the department contributes additional income to the government exchequer beyond the annual targets. The minister also underlined the importance of accountability and continuous monitoring of performance at all levels.
It was decided during the meeting that monthly performance review sessions will be held under the chairmanship of the Secretary Excise, while the provincial minister will personally conduct a detailed review of tax collection progress in April. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen fiscal discipline, enhance tax compliance, and increase provincial revenue.
Officials highlighted that active monitoring, field inspections, and registration of new taxpayers will play a key role in achieving the revenue targets. The Excise and Taxation department is also expected to adopt modern techniques and data-driven approaches to ensure efficient collection of taxes and curb evasion.
By focusing on improved performance and accountability, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa aims to expand its tax base, generate additional government revenue, and ensure financial sustainability to support provincial development projects and public services.
