ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a reduction in the petrol price by Rs4 per litre for the next pricing period, providing some relief to consumers across Pakistan. The revised fuel prices will come into effect from June 6, 2026, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division.

Under the latest revision, the ex-depot price of petrol (Motor Spirit) has been reduced from Rs381.78 per litre to Rs377.78 per litre. However, the government has decided to keep the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) unchanged at Rs380.78 per litre.

The latest petrol price reduction comes amid ongoing fluctuations in global oil prices and changing market conditions. Fuel prices in Pakistan are reviewed regularly to reflect international petroleum market trends, exchange rate movements, and other economic factors affecting the energy sector.

Consumers and businesses closely monitor petrol price updates as fuel costs directly impact transportation expenses, logistics operations, and the prices of essential goods and services. The reduction is expected to offer limited relief to motorists and commuters who have been facing high fuel costs in recent months.

The announcement follows a significant cut in petroleum prices last week when the government reduced both petrol and diesel rates by Rs22 per litre. That move was welcomed by consumers and industry stakeholders, who had been seeking lower fuel prices amid easing international crude oil rates.

Economic experts believe that fuel price adjustments play a crucial role in controlling inflation and supporting economic activity. Lower petrol prices can help reduce transportation costs and ease pressure on household budgets, although the overall impact depends on broader economic conditions.

The Petroleum Division stated that the revised fuel prices will remain effective until the next review period. Citizens are advised to stay updated through official government notifications regarding future changes in petrol and diesel rates.

The latest petrol price cut is expected to be closely watched by consumers, businesses, and transport operators as they assess its impact on daily expenses and the overall economy.
