Govt increases petrol, diesel prices for upcoming fortnight

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a fresh increase in fuel prices, raising petrol by Rs5 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs7.32 per litre for the next two weeks, effective February 16.

With the latest adjustment, petrol will now be priced at Rs258.17 per litre, up from Rs253.17. Meanwhile, the rate of high-speed diesel has climbed to Rs275.70 per litre from the previous Rs268.38.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the revised prices will remain in force for the next fortnight.

In the prior review, authorities had increased the price of high-speed diesel by Rs11.30 per litre while leaving petrol prices unchanged for 15 days.

Petrol is widely used by owners of small vehicles, motorcycles, and rickshaws, meaning the hike is likely to strain the finances of middle- and lower-income households that depend on it for daily commuting.

High-speed diesel, on the other hand, powers a large segment of the transport and agriculture sectors, including trucks, buses, trains, tractors, tube wells, and threshers. Due to its extensive use in goods transportation, any rise in diesel prices often leads to higher costs of food and other essential commodities.
