ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Monday signaled that the government is considering further steps to ease the tax burden on the salaried class. Speaking to reporters after visiting a job fair in Karachi, he assured that the coalition government is committed to providing relief to employees already facing heavy deductions.
Aurangzeb noted that Pakistan’s economic growth trajectory is showing positive signs, stressing the need to strengthen macroeconomic stability. He urged the country’s youth to channel their skills productively and highlighted the importance of private sector participation in driving sustainable growth. According to him, initiatives such as job fairs create valuable opportunities for young people seeking employment.
The finance minister’s remarks come after the government already reduced the income tax ratio in the fiscal year 2025-26 budget. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also emphasized that widening the tax net while easing the financial pressure on low- and middle-income groups remains a top government priority.
Chairing a meeting on Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reforms, the prime minister welcomed simplified tax return forms available in Urdu and called for the launch of a helpline to assist citizens. He further instructed that digital invoicing and other tax processes should also be offered in Urdu, keeping reforms focused on convenience for ordinary taxpayers.
