ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday, expressed Pakistan’s strong support for Iran following Israel’s recent airstrikes, which he described as unprovoked and unjustified. He reaffirmed Iran’s right to self-defence under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz condemned the attacks as a clear violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He conveyed heartfelt condolences over the loss of lives and reiterated Pakistan’s stance, as voiced during the UN Security Council's emergency session, in solidarity with Iran.
The Prime Minister labelled Israel’s actions as reckless and provocative, warning that they pose a serious threat to both regional and global stability. He also strongly denounced Israel’s ongoing assault on Palestinians, describing it as a genocidal campaign carried out with impunity.
Calling on the international community and the United Nations, PM Shehbaz urged immediate and decisive action to halt Israel’s aggression and uphold international law. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace and offered to play a constructive role in easing regional tensions.
President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support, particularly at the United Nations, highlighting the strong and brotherly ties between the two nations. He briefed PM Shehbaz on Iran’s position regarding the escalating conflict and urged greater unity among Islamic nations to counter the growing threats.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact as the situation unfolds.
This high-level exchange comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, where Israeli strikes targeting Iranian military and nuclear leaders have triggered a sharp Iranian counterattack. The resulting exchange of missile fire has raised serious concerns about a deepening conflict and long-term regional destabilization.
