TEHRAN: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Monday that the situation in the country remains “under total control” despite a surge in violence linked to ongoing anti-government protests. Speaking to foreign ambassadors in Tehran, Araqchi stated that Iran is prepared for both conflict and diplomacy, stressing that dialogue remains an option alongside national defence.

“We are ready for war, but we are also ready for dialogue,” the foreign minister said, according to an English translation of his remarks. He accused external actors of exploiting the unrest, claiming that US President Donald Trump’s warnings of possible action had encouraged “terrorist elements” to target protesters and security forces in an attempt to invite foreign intervention.

Araqchi’s comments followed statements by Trump, who said he was weighing “very strong options,” including potential military action, if the situation in Iran deteriorated further. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that Iran’s leadership had reached out seeking negotiations, though he warned that action could come before any talks take place.

Meanwhile, Iran’s embassy in Islamabad said pro-government rallies were held across several Iranian cities to denounce the unrest. China also weighed in, urging stability and opposing the use or threat of force, while reiterating its stance against interference in Iran’s internal affairs.

Trump is expected to meet senior advisers to discuss Iran, with reported options ranging from military strikes and cyber operations to tougher sanctions. Iran’s parliament speaker warned the US against miscalculation, stating that any attack would prompt a strong response.

The Iranian government has declared days of national mourning as protests continue, with rights groups reporting hundreds of deaths and thousands of arrests.
