ISLAMABAD: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and across the world are observing Accession to Pakistan Day today with a renewed commitment to their political cause and the remembrance of the historic resolution passed on July 19, 1947.
According to the Kashmir Media Service (KMS), the day marks the adoption of the historic resolution by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, which called for the accession of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan. The resolution was unanimously approved during a meeting held at the residence of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan in the Aabi Guzar area of Srinagar on July 19, 1947.
Events and gatherings are being held to highlight the historical significance of the resolution and to reaffirm support for the aspirations associated with the Kashmir issue. Messages issued by Hurriyat organizations on the occasion called on the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to play an active role in addressing the Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
The organizations also urged the international community to focus on the situation in the region and emphasized the need for protecting the rights of the Kashmiri people.
Earlier, Pakistan renewed its call for the United States to play a constructive role by encouraging India to address human rights concerns in Kashmir and release political prisoners.
Speaking during the weekly Foreign Office briefing, spokesperson Tahir Andrabi recalled the anniversaries of Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone, describing them as prominent Kashmiri leaders. He also remembered the 70 Kashmiris who lost their lives during the funeral procession of Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq.
The Foreign Office stated that accountability for the deaths of Kashmiri civilians and leaders remains an important concern and urged the international community, human rights organizations, and the United Nations to take notice of the humanitarian situation in the region.
Pakistan has consistently maintained that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved through peaceful means in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people. The country continues to reiterate its diplomatic support for a peaceful resolution of the longstanding issue through dialogue and international engagement.
