ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s mobile phone imports declined by 8.85 percent during the first two months of the current financial year 2026-27 compared with the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The country imported mobile phones worth $274.129 million during July-August 2026-27, compared with imports valued at $300.741 million during the same period of 2025-26.
The latest figures indicate a decline of $26.612 million in mobile phone imports during the first two months of the current financial year.
The downward trend was also recorded on a year-on-year basis in August 2026. According to PBS data, mobile phone imports fell by 13.82 percent in August compared with the same month of the previous year.
Mobile phone imports during August 2026 were recorded at $133.695 million, compared with $155.129 million in August 2025.
The figures show that imports declined by $21.434 million on a year-on-year basis during August.
On a month-on-month basis, mobile phone imports also registered a decline in August. The country imported mobile phones worth $133.695 million during the month, compared with $140.434 million in July 2026.
This represents a monthly decrease of 4.80 percent, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The latest import data comes amid continued changes in Pakistan’s mobile phone market, where demand for imported handsets and the availability of locally assembled devices influence overall import volumes.
The decline in mobile phone imports during the opening months of fiscal year 2026-27 marks a reduction from the import levels recorded during the corresponding period last year.
Mobile phones remain an important component of Pakistan’s electronics import bill, with changes in import values reflecting movements in consumer demand, handset prices, exchange rates and the availability of locally assembled products.
The PBS data provides an early indication of the trend in mobile phone imports during the new fiscal year. Further monthly figures will show whether the decline continues in the coming months or whether import volumes recover.
The latest statistics also highlight a broader month-on-month and year-on-year reduction in mobile phone imports, with both comparisons showing lower import values in August 2026.
