ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced four special facilities for senior citizens aged 60 and above to make identity document services more convenient and accessible.
According to NADRA, dedicated priority counters have been established for senior citizens at its offices across Pakistan. Elderly citizens can use these counters to receive services on a priority basis, reducing waiting times and making visits to NADRA centres easier.
NADRA has also introduced the “Manpack” service for senior citizens who are unable to visit its offices due to age-related difficulties or physical weakness. Under this facility, eligible citizens can access NADRA services at their homes, eliminating the need to travel to a registration centre.
Another facility has been introduced to address difficulties faced by elderly citizens during biometric verification. NADRA noted that fingerprints can become faint with age, making fingerprint-based verification difficult in some cases.
To facilitate such citizens, facial recognition can be used as an alternative method of biometric verification where fingerprint authentication is not possible. The facility is intended to make the verification process smoother for senior citizens.
NADRA has also announced a lifetime-valid identity card facility for citizens aged 60 and above. According to the authority, an identity card issued after a citizen reaches the age of 60 remains valid for life and does not require periodic renewal.
The four facilities are aimed at reducing the difficulties senior citizens may face while obtaining or updating identity documents and accessing NADRA services.
The authority has advised senior citizens to contact their nearest NADRA centre for further information and guidance regarding eligibility and the procedure for using the available facilities.
The announcement is particularly significant for elderly citizens who may face mobility challenges, difficulty with fingerprint verification or inconvenience caused by repeated visits to registration offices.
With priority counters, home-based services, alternative biometric verification and lifetime-valid identity cards, NADRA aims to provide greater convenience to citizens aged 60 and above while improving access to essential identity-related services across the country.
