ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kuwait have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in the petroleum sector, following a meeting between Pakistan’s Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Kuwait’s Ambassador Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi on Thursday. The discussions focused on ongoing collaboration and exploring new avenues for partnership in energy.

During the meeting, Malik warmly welcomed the Kuwaiti envoy and praised his constructive role in enhancing bilateral ties, calling him “a true friend of Pakistan.” He highlighted that Pakistan-Kuwait relations are built on decades of trust, mutual respect, and cooperation, particularly in the petroleum and energy sectors.

Ali Pervaiz Malik emphasised Pakistan’s dedication to further strengthening its energy partnership with Kuwait, noting that bilateral petroleum cooperation has thrived over many decades. He underlined the need to expand collaboration in line with evolving global energy trends, citing oil credit facilities, Kuwaiti investment in petroleum exploration, and the supply of white oil products as key pillars of the relationship.

Ambassador Almutairi lauded Pakistan’s ongoing stability and development, observing that while the country has made significant progress, external forces remain envious and attempt to undermine its stability. He reaffirmed Kuwait’s support for Pakistan, expressing a strong desire to see the country continue to prosper across economic, political, and social fronts.

Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination, explore new opportunities in the energy sector, and further strengthen the historic partnership between the two nations. The meeting also built on Kuwait’s earlier support in April, when it extended an oil credit facility to Pakistan for another two years, providing a critical buffer for the country’s energy needs.

Pakistan, which has recently stabilised its economy under a $7 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout, relies on energy credit facilities and rollovers to manage its foreign exchange reserves, given that energy imports remain a major drain. The ongoing collaboration with Kuwait is therefore vital to sustaining energy security, economic stability, and long-term bilateral relations.

The discussions underscore the mutual commitment of Pakistan and Kuwait to enhancing petroleum cooperation while exploring strategic opportunities that align with global energy trends and the development priorities of both countries.
