ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today announced a major relief initiative for Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural sectors, unveiling the *‘Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package’* to provide additional electricity at subsidised rates over the next three years.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the announcement was made during a meeting with experts from the industrial and agricultural sectors and representatives of the business community.
Under the new package, industries and farms will receive additional power units at Rs22.98 per unit from November 2025 to October 2028, significantly lower than the current rates of Rs34 for the industrial sector and Rs38 for agriculture.
“The burden of the electricity supplied under this package will not fall on domestic consumers or any other sector,” the prime minister assured, adding that the initiative aims to strengthen production, boost exports, and generate jobs.
PM Shehbaz emphasised that the development of the industrial and agricultural sectors is crucial for Pakistan’s economic growth and employment creation. “We are taking every possible step to enhance competitiveness and improve the ease of doing business,” he said.
Highlighting the success of last year’s winter energy package, the prime minister noted that it resulted in the consumption of an additional 410 gigawatt-hours of electricity, which contributed to higher industrial output and employment.
Earlier this week, the **Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI)** had urged the government to introduce a long-term plan to lower power tariffs, arguing that high costs were eroding industrial competitiveness. In a letter to Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, the FPCCI reminded the government of its commitment to reduce tariffs to regional levels of **6–8 US cents per unit**—a target the new package aims to move closer toward.
