KARACHI: The Southern Region of Appraisement has ramped up efforts against import fraud, uncovering a major tax evasion case worth over Rs 700 million. The Collectorate of Customs Appraisement East revealed that an importer deliberately misdeclared electrolyte tin plate by labeling it as galvalum sheets to evade duties and taxes.

Customs officials explained that the concealed tin plates were hidden in a way that routine inspections could not detect them. The fraudulent scheme aimed to deceive customs inspectors and bypass standard scrutiny.

After a thorough investigation, authorities arrested three suspects involved in the operation. Additionally, goods valued at Rs 1.2 billion were seized during the crackdown.

Formal charges have been filed against the accused, signaling a firm stance by customs authorities to clamp down on import-related tax evasion and protect the country’s revenue.

Officials have vowed to continue intensifying measures against such fraudulent activities to ensure compliance with customs laws and safeguard economic interests
