KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched a public awareness campaign to help citizens identify genuine Rs5,000 currency notes and protect themselves from counterfeit currency. Through a newly released awareness video, the central bank highlighted several advanced security features embedded in Pakistan’s highest denomination banknote currently in circulation.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan, fake currency remains a concern across the country, leading to financial losses for individuals, businesses, and financial institutions. The central bank emphasized that understanding the security features of the Rs5000 note can significantly reduce the risk of fraud and strengthen confidence in financial transactions.

One of the most important features of the genuine Rs5,000 note is its specialized paper quality. The note is printed on high-security paper that has a distinctive texture that can be felt by touch. It also contains a watermark of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, along with an electrotype watermark displaying the denomination value when viewed against light.

The SBP further explained that a vertical security thread runs through the note. When held up to a light source, this thread appears as a shiny strip, and the number “5000” becomes visible. In addition, certain printed elements on the note align perfectly when viewed from both sides, revealing the denomination clearly.

Another key security feature is the color-changing ink used on the national flag printed on the note. This optical variable ink changes color when viewed from different angles, making it difficult for counterfeiters to replicate. A hidden numeral “5000” also becomes visible when the note is tilted under light.

For accessibility purposes, the Rs5000 note includes raised printing on Quaid-e-Azam’s portrait, denomination markings, and border lines. Three raised circles on the left side of the note help visually impaired individuals identify the denomination through touch.

The central bank also highlighted ultraviolet security features. Under UV light, blue and yellow fluorescent patterns appear on the security thread, while green fluorescent fibers and decorative security designs become visible across the note.

The State Bank of Pakistan urged the public to carefully examine currency notes before accepting them and to report suspicious counterfeit notes to relevant authorities. Officials believe increased awareness about Rs5000 note security features will help combat currency fraud and promote safer financial transactions throughout Pakistan.
