KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially launched its nationwide “Go Cashless” campaign for Eidul Adha 2026, aiming to promote secure, fast, and convenient digital payments across cattle markets in Pakistan. The initiative is part of the central bank’s ongoing efforts to reduce dependency on cash transactions and accelerate the country’s transition toward a digital payments ecosystem.

According to the SBP, cattle markets experience extremely high commercial activity during Eidul Adha, with millions of buyers and sellers conducting livestock trade in a short period. Traditionally, most of these transactions are cash-based, increasing risks related to theft, counterfeit currency, and lack of financial traceability. The Go Cashless campaign is designed to address these challenges by encouraging the use of digital payment solutions.

This year’s campaign has been significantly expanded, with coverage increasing from 54 cattle markets in the previous year to 96 designated markets across Pakistan. The SBP stated that 22 commercial banks will participate by setting up dedicated facilitation camps and kiosks at cattle markets to support customers in adopting digital financial services.

Under the initiative, banks will help onboard livestock sellers, transporters, and related service providers onto digital platforms. This includes opening bank accounts, activating mobile wallets, and enabling QR code-based payment systems to simplify transactions.

The SBP has also introduced temporary relaxations on transaction limits and account balance restrictions from May 14 to June 5, 2026, to ensure smooth processing of high-volume payments during the Eid season. These measures are intended to improve usability and reduce friction for users adopting digital banking solutions.

In addition, financial infrastructure such as mobile banking vans, ATMs, and cash deposit machines will be deployed where possible to support accessibility in and around cattle markets. The central bank is also encouraging citizens to use mobile banking apps, branchless banking services, Raast instant payment system, and QR code payments for all Eid-related purchases.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at strengthening financial inclusion in Pakistan and promoting a more transparent and efficient payment system. By shifting large-scale seasonal trade toward digital channels, the SBP hopes to reduce cash handling risks while building long-term trust in digital financial services across the country.
