LONDON: The Government of the United Kingdom on Saturday voiced concern that the ongoing military confrontation involving the United States, Israel and Iran could escalate into a broader regional war.

“We do not want to see further escalation into a wider regional conflict,” a government spokesperson said, stressing that London is closely monitoring developments.

The spokesperson added that the UK’s “immediate priority” is ensuring the safety and security of British nationals across the region.

Officials said Britain maintains a range of defensive assets in the Middle East and has recently reinforced its presence. “We stand ready to protect our interests,” the spokesperson noted.

However, a government source clarified that the UK had no involvement in the US and Israeli strikes conducted against Iran on Saturday.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was understood to be chairing an emergency session with senior cabinet ministers to assess the fast-evolving security situation.

In a separate message posted on X, the UK government urged its citizens in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to “immediately shelter in place” following reports of missile strikes in those countries.
