TEHRAN: The wife of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has died after sustaining critical injuries in recent US–Israel strikes, Iranian media reported on Monday.
According to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, 79-year-old Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh had been in a coma since Saturday’s attacks, which also killed Khamenei. She succumbed to her wounds two days later.
Khamenei’s assassination was confirmed by Iranian state media on Sunday. He had served as a central figure in Iran’s political and religious system since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, steering the country through decades of regional and international crises.
Israeli military officials said hundreds of targets across Iran were struck during the operation, including key defence installations that had previously been damaged in earlier attacks. The military stated that three separate locations where senior leaders were meeting were hit simultaneously, resulting in the deaths of multiple high-ranking figures.
The developments mark a significant escalation in regional tensions, with the fallout from the strikes continuing to unfold.
